Swellendam, the historical
heart of the Overberg, is located conveniently half
way between, and two hours drive from, both Cape
Town and George. It is one of the oldest towns in
South-Africa and reflects in many ways its history
as a Dutch East India outpost, which can clearly
be seen in the wide variety of building styles,
from the architecture of the Old Cape Dutch settlers
in the 1600’s to modern face-brick.
